Now that our staff has fully recovered from our first 3 day erotic film festival, we are back at work finding erotic films to show to unsuspecting Seattle audiences. For October, we are showing Bruce LaBruce’s first foray into the under appreciated genre of gay zombie porn, Otto; Or, Up with Dead People.
October 30th, 6:45 pm, Grand Illusion Cinema
[box] OTTO; OR, UP WITH DEAD PEOPLE
Written and Directed by Bruce LaBruce
94 minutes “One of the more disciplined entries in the LaBruce oeuvre, Otto is sexy and silly in just the right proportions, a cult item with a real heart.” – New York Times
Otto is a handsome, sensitive, neo-Goth zombie with an identity crisis. He wanders the streets of the city, never sleeping, until one day he auditions for a zombie film. The director, an eccentric bohemian, begins making a film about Otto, while simultaneously shooting a film about a gay zombie revolt against consumerist society. As the final, orgiastic scene of the film is being shot, Otto struggles to access the human emotions buried beneath his zombie exterior, including memories of his ex-boyfriend, Rudolf.
Toying with genre conventions, Bruce LaBruce combines different media, including a humorous film-within-the-film, while creating a new, sexy, hyper-politicized zombie mythology in OTTO; OR; UP WITH DEAD PEOPLE. Bruce LaBruce is a writer, filmmaker, and photographer hailing from Toronto, Canada. He helped launch the so-called Homocore or Queercore movement with the production of homo punk fanzines and Super 8 movies. Many of LaBruce’s films have become cult favs including HUSTLER WHITE and THE RASPBERRY REICH. Often using pornography as a starting point to examine sexual politics and homosexual radicalism, LaBruce’s films push boundaries and genres. His most recent films include REFUGEE’S WELCOME and THE MISANDRISTS.

And if you need more convincing, here is the curiously totally un-explicit trailer. Yes, this is an adult film with plenty of plot and character development.
SECS Fest 2017 was a huge success. Thank you to all of the organizers who spent the last year planning the event, the volunteers who helped throughout the weekend, the filmmakers who submitted their work and finally, to all those who attended. I don’t think it would be possible for a very first film festival to have mostly full screenings, especially with so little time to get the word out. But you came and made it an exciting weekend.
On Sunday night, at the closing party, the winners of the SECS Fest 2017 Golden Raincoat awards were announced. There were four awards, Best Feature, Best Short Film, Best Sex-Positive Film, and Best Humor.
And the first ever Golden Raincoat winners are…
Best Feature: Exotic, the very smart documentary on sex-work in Guam from director Amy Oden.
Best Short Film: Sonata by David Bloom.
Our selection for a film that communicates progressive sex-positive values goes to See Me by Ms. Naughty.
And finally Best Humor goes to the film that kept the SECS Fest jury rolling is the aisles with laughter, House of Air from filmmaking duo Brian and Karl.
Congratulations to our winners. Our Jury deliberated long and hard trying to choose favorites as there were so many favorites. So I’m going to list some of the honorable mentions that really could be right there with the winners. Feminist and Submissive from Erika Lust, Cake by Anne Hu, The Training of Poe, the French dramatic short, Jules and finally the experimental short Cellular Activity: Bedtime Story.
So again, thank you to all that made the weekend momentous. The organizers are in need of a few days of rest and then, we will be putting out the call for submissions for 2018 and sending out physical awards to the 2017 winners.
Tomorrow is our monthly erotic cinema event at the Grand Illusion Cinema. This is a rarely seen example of French erotic horror.
Girl Slaves of Morgana Le Fay – 9 pm – Grand Illusion Cinema – $9 / $5 (members)
And remember, the Grand Illusion is a cash only venue.
Seattle Erotic Cinema Society volunteers will have a card reader on hand, so we will be able to sell SECS Memberships. And if you would like to buy a pass for SECS Fest 2017, you need to be a SECS member.
In preparation for the festival, SECS Volunteers hit the streets and postered numerous Seattle neighborhoods. So hopefully, you will see our poster at some of your favorite locations around the city.
I’m pleased to announce that SECS Fest 2017 has a completed and downright provocative 48 seconds of titillation.
In addition to this general festival produced video, director Anne Hu has released a SECS Fest specific trailer for her charming and hilarious short film, CAKE.
Tickets are on sale now!
And here’s a clip from our Friday night archival films, Matinee Idol. The assistant cinematographer will be attending to answer all of your questions about how the films during the golden age of pornography were made.
And finally, while I’m posting a bunch of videos to spark interest in Seattle Erotic Cinema Society upcoming events, we are also showing a French, soft-core erotic horror movie for our August event. Girl Slave of Morgana Le Fay is a seductive dreamily beautiful film that shouldn’t be missed.
I’m excited that we have one final event before our weekend long, erotic film festival, SECS Fest, September 8 – 10.
The Seattle Erotic Cinema Society is teaming up with Mondo Macabro to present the erotic European lesbian horror film, Girl Slaves of Morgana le Fay – 9 pm, Tuesday August 29th at our favorite theater, the Grand Illusion Cinema.
GIRL SLAVES OF MORGANA LE FAY
Director: Bruno Gantillon
**Co-Presented with MONDO MACABRO**
Driving in their car through France one summer, two young girls, Anna & Francoise, find themselves trapped in the kingdom of the mythic Morgana, Queen of the Witches.
Ever since Merlin taught her his skills centuries ago, Morgana has gone on living by obtaining the souls of the young women who pass through her kingdom. In exchange, she gives the captives who agree to her pact eternal youth and beauty. Those who refuse her grow old and ugly in the dungeons of her castle.
A classic of softcore erotic horror, GIRL SLAVES OF MORGANA LE FAY is beautifully shot. Beware the magical enrapturement – Morgana does not take well to refusal.
