Missing You is presented as a work of autoethnography. Although it was created for a lover who was away on a trip, Trujillo shares it with us the viewer, as a way of examining their own desire and repression and, in particular, the effect of representation in a receptive sexual role.


Director Biography – Juan Antonio Trujillo

Juan Antonio Trujillo, a queer Latino raised in a devout Mormon family, came to filmmaking after more than 30 years as a university-level educator. His work draws on skills developed over the years as a sociolinguist and queer studies scholar and features the experiences of people who live in the crossroads of ethnic, sexual, and other identities. He is co-organizer of the Tag! Queer Shorts Festival based in Portland, Oregon.

Juan Antonio Trujillo, un hombre queer que creció en una familia mormona devota, llegó a la cinematografía después de más de 30 años trabajando como educador universitario. Su proceso artístico incorpora las capacidades que desarrolló durante sus años de trabajo como sociolingüista y se enfoca en las experiencias de personas que viven en las intersecciones de identidades étnicas y sexuales entre otras. Es co-organizador de Tag! Queer Shorts Festival, un festival de cortometrajes basado en Portland, Oregon.

Director Statement

Missing You is presented as a work of autoethnography. Although it was created for a lover who was away on a trip, I am bringing it to a public space as a way of examining my own desire and repression and, in particular, the effect of representation in a receptive sexual role.
